Salt/NaCl 50 LB & Salt/NaCl (SS)
Other Names: Sodium Chloride, Brine Additive
Basic Properties: Density Control, Shale Stabilization, Corrosion Reduction
Salt (NaCl) is a brine additive used in drilling fluids to control density, stabilize shale formations, and reduce corrosion risks in high-salinity environments. It is commonly used in water-based mud systems, where salt concentration can enhance mud performance.
As a density control agent, Salt increases mud weight, providing better well control and pressure management in over-pressured formations.
Additionally, Salt helps inhibit clay swelling, reducing formation instability and preventing differential sticking issues.
pH: Salt solutions typically maintain a neutral pH of 6.5 to 7.5, ensuring compatibility with most drilling fluid formulations.
By incorporating Salt into drilling operations, operators can achieve better wellbore stability, optimize fluid density, prevent clay swelling, and maintain drilling efficiency, ensuring safer and more controlled drilling.
